ACOACH4LIFE: YOUTH COACHING

Young people are our tomorrow, they deserve to feel heard.

As adults, we sometimes forget the difficulties and challenges that young people face. We must first seek to understand their perspective, through compassion focused listening.

Children learn behaviours from an incredibly young age. They take on much more than we often realise and this is carried into adulthood. We set them up for life with our views, beliefs and behaviours, and whilst we hope they will get the best of us, they frequently adopt the worst of us!

We often tell ourselves that the lives of young people are without responsibility and care, but this is simply not true

And we might wonder why the wisdoms we share don’t  ‘land’ as we’d like them to or give us the response we expect. It’s important to remember that the hardest years are almost always the transition into adulthood. The teenage mind is wired differently and we have to accept that they will not always agree or even understand our perspective or the lessons we are trying to teach them. Sometimes, all they need is to feel heard and understood. A Personal Development Coach gives them that space to feel this. It allows them to set the agenda and feel in control.  We can gently guide, but they need to set the course.

Through coaching conversations, insight and wisdom is gained by the coachee and more often than not, better choices and communication are then realised. Ultimately, supporting young people through challenging times is the most important thing.
