I was gifted a beautiful Dragonfly brooch a couple of years ago when I was going through a challenging period of change in my life, that required courage and dignity. Matt Phelan, the friend who gave it to me, is an incredible young man with strong values. He has made a huge success of his life and I admire him greatly. Considering he is 20 years younger than me, I have learned a lot from his positive, go-getting attitude have been inspired to face some of my fears and just do it anyway.

He explained that the Dragonfly is a symbol of change, transformation and self realisation. It teaches us to love life, to rejoice and have faith, even amidst difficulties. 

As a child, they felt like a rare and magical sighting. I was bedazzled by them, awe struck by their beauty. Last summer, I saw more Dragonflies than I had ever seen before; they seemed to be everywhere, somehow reminding me of how far I have come.
